Assignment 211 - Presenting Photo Images

Assignment 211 - Presenting Photo Images

The assignment 211 will demonstrate my ability to present 10 thematic images, i have chosen to create an online web gallery and slideshow to present images from assignment 207 themed as studio photography, my image gallery has been created using Adobe bridge. The software has allowed me to easily manage my images and create a flash based gallery tailored to my requirements. This presentation method offers a professional online appearance and includes popular navigation using desirable flash elements, This method offers a wider audience as any number of online users could potentially see my work, image preparation for Web is RGB colour mode and usually images are optimised at 72 DPI for a faster loading image that enhances to users experience.

Some Down Sides?
  • Each users screen resolution and colour display may not show the work in it's true light
  • Page Ranking and SEO would need to be considered to maximise target audience
  • User friendliness
  • Hosting & web space required / Domain
Some Up Sides?
  • Greater audience
  • Control over how images are displayed
  • Accessibility options
An alternative method of displaying photographic images in consideration is exhibition or prints as a physical gallery display for people to view or purchase. Whilst exhibits or art galleries are limited to the amount of people in attendance, if the objective to sell the work on display this could be the best method as it would allow the viewer/customer direct contact with the artwork and its printed qualities, also a sale could be made.

Some Down Sides?
  • Limited to how many people actually see the work on display
  • Preparation and prints are required and could be expensive
Some Up Sides?
  • Sales could be made
  • Face to face feedback
I have also created a flickr gallery of my final images which can be seen here using this link:-

My above research outlines the differences achievable in quality by selecting the correct paper finishes as gloss paper can allow a more vibrant colour, and one printing company for photographic print images explains they prefer to receive artwork in RGB format as a JPEG. Printing company's may vary their preferred file formats and colour settings for the best use with their printing equipment, my final images were made using lab colour then converted back into RGB.

    Exhibition of printed work

Frame ready for mounting my image

    Aligning up my print

Allowance for movement and expansion using this fixing technique

Only fixing the top horizontal edge is sufficient

Considerations have been taken into long term care of the photographic prints as the masking tape used is acid free and will not effect or mark the print for up to 25 years, the above technique allows for expansion and movement so the print will not buckle or warp.

Two pieces of my work have been selected and mounted in the above frames ready for exhibition from the 6th of February 2012 and will be on display for one to two weeks at the Swadlincote council building public entrance upper lobby.
